Well, this topic might sound easy but when I and my colleague searched in the net for one of the scenario under this topic,we could not find an easy solution to it.

Now let me describe the scenario:

Consider the image at the right side. Here the first rectangle is the screen. And your webpage size is lesser than the screen. That is it occupies half of the screen. There are spaces on both left and right side of the webpage size. In simpler words, if the screen size is 1024*768, the webpage width is only 862.

Also consider there are 4 menus in the webpage namely A,B,C and D as given in picture.And each menu has its own drop-down menus. This drop-down menus expand and collapse on mouse over and mouse out respectively.

Here the main menu A,B,C and D and drop-down are seperate div.And the div position for the drop-down menu is absolute.

Like in the figure, the last menu's drop-down list goes out of the webpage size limit thus occupying some space in the screen width. To make it come inside the webpage size,we tried a lot of stuffs which didnt work. Finally we came to the below conclusion.

First thing is that we can position the div element to the corresponding place. But when the menus are dynamic we have to find out another solution but with respect to positioning the div.

There is an property in div called div.style.right which has value 0 and 1. 0 means the style of the div becomes right aligned.

Now if we give this, the div will be right aligned to for all the menus. But what we want to achieve is not that rather only for the menu D.

There is another property in html called offset,right? Remember? Wont this be useful to achieve our purpose? Yes, ofcourse it will. Now lets c how we need to use this.

Offset has certain property associated.

offsetParent - is the screen size

offsetWidth - gives the width of the specified object

offsetLeft - Retrieves the left edge of the specified object

offsetRight can be calculated by the sum of left and width

Now,what we need to check is if the div goes beyond right side of the screen, we have to make it to align to right.

var screenRight = div.offsetParent.offsetWidth;

var divRight = div.offsetLeft + div.offsetWidth;

if(divRight > screenRight)
div.style.right =0;

This 3 lines will make the drop-down align to the right of the webpage(i.e. div).

Now this solves the problem.

Google Updations!

Now there is a New Group Chat! in your gmail account at the top right.. Have you noticed? If not, open ur gmail account and check it out.... This was the one which was there in google's mind for long time i guess.

How to chat in group?

In gmail, Open a conversation with one person,
now click on Options -> Group Chat.

Now add the 2nd persons id to whom u want to chat.
Now enjoy chatting!

Here are few more things which u guys would have
noticed and some that you wouldn't have noticed.

Jus for information. Here it goes.

1. Attachment size increased to 20 MB
2. New emoticons
3. New message notification
4. Forward all
5. Chat even when friends are online
6. Gmail automatically does virus scan every time you open or send a message with an attachment
7. Signature options

Ur Mobile numbers will not change!

If anyone has read The Times Of India two days back, this blog will not surprise you. Otherwise here is the surprise. I would call this as a great entry for the telecom ministry in India.

All these while, if we change our location from one city to another, we would change our mobile numbers to that particular city local service provider. After that, we would be updating our friends,family,relatives etc... with the number. This is such a big headache for all of us. This happened to me also recently when I shifted from TamilNadu to Karnataka.

Indian telecom industry has come up with a solution of retaining the mobile number where you go. That means even if you go from delhi to mumbai and change your sim to the local service provider sim, the number will not change. You can retain the same number. This would become easier for the users but a tough task for the service providers. Common numbers has to be given.

This is getting implemented in the four metro cities. Lets wait and see how good this idea works out!...

"Here’s good news for India’s 210 million mobile consumers. After sitting on the decision for over two years, the telecom ministry on Monday finally decided to introduce number portability for mobile services. This means if you are unhappy with your mobile service provider but have been unable to shift to another because it would mean changing your number, you will be able to switch while retaining the same number.
The move, long demanded by those who wanted a truly competitive telecom market, should see service providers going the extra mile to ensure their customers stay satisfied and hence loyal to them. According to telecom minister A Raja, the facility will be launched in the four metros to begin with. However, he did not specify exactly when this would happen.
Full number portability allows users to retain their telephone numbers not just when they change service providers. They can also retain the number when they are switching service types — say, from mobile to fixed line — or when changing locations — say, from Delhi to Mumbai or viceversa. The portability envisaged by Raja, however, will only allow wireless number portability.
The lack of number portability between mobile providers in India has kept many consumers from changing services because of the inconvenience of changing their phone number on business cards and other documents, and informing all their contacts of the new number. Its introduction will get rid of these hassles.
Not surprisingly, GSM operators are unhappy about the development. T V Ramachandran of the Cellular Operators’ Association of India alleged that mobile number portability is introduced to benefit an operator seeking to enter the GSM segment — a reference to Reliance.
Reliance Communications boss Anil Ambani said: “It is pro-competition, pro-consumer and pro-choice. For the first time in the four metros, GSM operators will face real competition”.
CDMA association AUSPI welcomed the move. “It’s an important and effective tool for ensuring effective competition and improved quality of service in the mobile telecom service sector which will ultimately benefit the subscribers at large,” said S C Khanna of AUSPI. "

Yahoo! Kickstart

Yet another social network. Now its the turn of Yahoo! to bring up a social network. Yahoo has named it as Kickstart. As the name suggests, they have just kickstarted this network.

This service is actually more like LinkedIn wherein we get in touch with our college friends and alumni. This product group is led by Scott Gatz. He says this service will be updated with events, message boards once the network gets started.

Kickstart is focusing on getting alumni to sign up first, and will be offering a $25,000 prize to whichever college/university gets the most alumni to sign up before December 31.

Lets wait and watch how far the Kickstart is growing onto success....

MySpace joins Google

Yeah, MySpace joins google alliance. People say this alliance is to counter Facebook.

MySpace and Bebo, two of the world’s largest social networking sites, on Thursday joined a Google-led alliance that is promoting a common set of standards for software developers to write programs for social networks.

The alliance now presents a powerful counterweight to Facebook, which, after opening up its site to developers last spring, has persuaded thousands of them to create programs for its users. The addition of MySpace, the world’s largest social network with 110 million active members, and Bebo, the No. 1 site in Britain with 39 million active users, could also put pressure on Facebook to drop its own standard and join the alliance, called OpenSocial.

How BlackBerry Works?

Some of the People would have already explored how a blackberry works... I went through a site and that site i tell you is really good one to learn lots....

Oh yeah! I will give u the site at the end of this blog...

The title of how blackberry works attracted me and this was the one wat i wanted to learn for a long time even though i know something about it before. Either i forget to browse through or I get work. Today i got this link from Google Reader.

Here goes what i learnt..... And remember its jus a gist.....

Blackberry's manufacturer is Research In Motion (RIM). In 1999, it said that only 25,000 blackberries were sold out. In 2005, they announced as 3.65 million subscribers. Look at the drastic change...

Many use blackberry for constant access of email, phone and calendar. Many people say using blackberry is advantageous because they can spend more time with their family. Many say its disadvantage because work can come anytime even during their free time.

How does the instant emails come? Using which technology? 'Push' is the technology. Even before this 'push' technology emerged, PDA was introduced way back. But time-consuming was the major factor because of manual sync. On the other hand, BlackBerry Enterprise Server or Desktop Redirector software "pushes," or redirects, new e-mail, calendar updates, documents and other data straight to the user over the Internet and the cellphone network.

The software senses that a new message has arrived or the data has changed. Then, it compresses, packages and redirects the information to the handheld unit. The server uses hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) and transmission control protocol (TCP) to communicate with the handhelds. It also encrypts the data with encryption methods like DES and AES.

In general the visible parts of a BlackBerry are:

LCD display
QWERTY keyboard
Click wheel
On/off, escape and other keys
Headset jack
USB charger connection
Antenna (interior on some models)
Indicator light to advise users of new messages or data

U can also see the microphone, speaker and to access rechargeable batteries.

Internal parts will have 32-bit microprocessor, light source for screen, memory, bluetooth transmitter and wireless modem...

I got this content from one of my friend. I would like to share it with you. As the title says, Yeah! U can listen to PDF files. I was always wondering how to listen to pdf and do other works simultaneously. I am sure many of you would have thought the same. Here comes the solution for it.

You can listen to any PDF files instead of reading with Adobe Reader 6 or 7 and the short cuts are:

Ctrl + Shift + B - to hear the entire Document
Ctrl + Shift + V - to hear the page
Ctrl + Shift + C - to resume
Ctrl + Shift + E - to stop

Open any PDF File and test.... unbelievable.

It will read for you the entire content!....................Dont believe???....Just try Guys.......It really works.......and truly amazing!

Emphatic Win for India (India Vs Pakistan T20 Final)

Hey Guys,

I am sure all of you would have seen the match yesterday. What an fantastic finish to the world cup final!! Awesome!!! Good team effort to India and a bit luck too... And Cheers to Pakistan also for the fight back they made...

Look at the young team... It said so that the average age of the guys in the team is 24.

All the players enjoyed the game they were playing. No fear on their faces. When u enjoy the game, u will show well. And that is the magic which worked on this team.. What say?

And now is the question of senior players coming into picture? Once the match is over, one of the TV channel started debated about whether the senior players are needed in the team.

And look at the prize money announced by BCCI... 3 million USD plus the champions prize money, 1 crore for yuvraj singh and a Porsche 911, 5 lakhs for Uthappa and V Prasad each. WOW! Rich BCCI.... ;)

There are few players to be named who shined in this tournament.

Irfan Pathan - came back to his form at the right time when Team India needed.

RP Singh - Bowled beautifully with good line and length

Sreesanth - Aggressive bowling

Yuvraj Singh - Who will ever forget his 6x6.... Beautiful ones...

Yusuf Pathan - Great start to his international career

Rohit Sharma - Sensible batting when the team needed.

Last but not the least, T20 India Captain MS Dhoni - Good captaincy, good strategies.

From pakistan side, Misbah, Player of the tournament Shahid Afridi, shoaib Malik. They were also relatively an young side.

On the whole, it was really a good typical Ind Vs Pak match. Thanks to both the teams for entertaining the whole world.

Oh! I forgot to mention how I saw the match... Believe me, its much more thrilling when you check the scores in the Internet. You will never know what will happen and you cant predict what is going to happen. Only when the page refreshes, we can see the score. Live telecast sites cannot be opened in my office. 8.45 PM IST was my cab and there were 8 balls left. We(I and 8 other colleagues) surrounded one person's cubicle and was starring at the computer screen.
We had to call up the reception people and ask them to stop the cab for some while. In the whole office, there were only 10 to 15 people. Surprisingly,even the cab drivers were checking the internet for updates. Later on, I went home and saw the highlights of the match..

Trip to Kodaikanal!

Hey Guys,

I went for an pleasure trip to kodaikanal. Its was my office domain trip. 80 members totally. It was awesome weather. Fortunately rain did not spoil our outing.
Weather was really good. It was sunny in the afternoon and the same time it was cold. Stayed in Carlton Hotel,the 5-star hill resort which is surrounded by the lake. Lake view from the room is awesome.

Carlton hotel arranged for group events. Also they offered free half an hour boating in their boat club, Jacuzzi, Steam, Massage. Facilties were good.

It was 2 days trip. We enjoyed the facilities provided by Carlton on one day and the other day we went for sight seeing. We visited caokers walk where u can see the view of kodaikanal, Pillar rock, Suicide point(it was covered with mist when i went).

Missed out dolphin nose actually. Do visit guys to all these places if u r planning to.

Google Page Creator has some problem

Hey Guys,

Have u tried opening your google page in edit mode recently?

I tried opening it and the page was left blank. And when i click
the Edit HTML, i dont get all the html part of that page.(Check out the image on the right side)

I am not sure if everyone are facing the same problem but yeah
there are two guys along with me faced the same problem.

Yahoo IM's funny indicators

I was chatting with my brother today in Yahoo's Gadget which was plugged along with the mail. I found something funny today. I couldnt stop laughing at it.

Let me share it with you guys.

Check out the sentence inside the red circle. It will be funny.

The one which is erased is the user name.

Say, if my yahoo id is "funny", it will prompt me as

Hey guys,

When I was checking my mail in Yahoo, A popup appeared saying that I can now able to chat inside the mail box and asked me to continue. I pressed the continue button, It took some time to load the chat and it appeared as it shown in the picture.

Look at the red circle in the picture. This is how it shows when the chat is loaded on to ur page. The circle at the top indicates that you are online.

On the left navigationbar, along with the contacts, you will be shown with the number of persons online. When u click on it, It will show you the persons who are online.

The chat screen looks good.....

When the screen is minimized,we get an alert which looks like the one below..... One thing is that there is no colour change in the alert like how google has in their chat.....

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I had an awesome weekend sitting alone at home on saturday and spending the whole time with my brother's kid on sunday.....

When I am back to office, I saw the google news saying Yahoo! Photos will be shutting down its service. But it will ask all the existing users to switch to the photo-sharing site namely Flickr!

In June, tens of millions of registered users of Yahoo Photos will be notified of various options including upgrading to Yahoo's Flickr service or various outside-photo storage sites, according to Flickr co-founder Stewart Butterfield.

Yahoo also will offer consumers the option of loading their photos on competing sites when users are notified next month.

These include PhotoBucket - the most popular online photo sharing service among users of social network sites like MySpace - or more conventional photo printing and storage site such as Kodak Gallery, Shutterfly or Snapfish, he said.

Yahoo continued to support both Photos and Flickr over the past two years, reflecting the different audiences of the two sites.

Hey, and one more thing..... Yahoo has gone crazy I guess... My brother sent a mail asking," what mail have u sent to the family group?" After this I figured it out in my mail inbox, that a mail has been sent in my name to all the family members(I mean to my family group) saying something like 'you should watch this video'.... Guys, watch out ur yahoo inbox.. If someone sends a spam, dont open it.... Even let ur friends know that if any such mail comes, tell them its not u who is sending and ask them to consider it as a SPAM! I really dont know wat is Yahoo doing without monitoring all such spams.....

Hey Guys!!!

Got any clue by seeing the title?? Yeah! I am done with my MCA. Now I am not a student. he he..... Last week I finished my 6th semester project review and it went on well. Got good marks i guess. Now those are all not a big concern. I know i will get a pass grade. Tats enough.

So wats up guys????? Let me tell some interesting things.....

When we change ourselves from a student to an professional environment, have u ever recognized the things that do not change in us?

During the first week of work in honeywell for my project, I used to put my hands under the tap and wait for water to come. Then realised that this is not college. 'coz in my college, the water taps are automatic. I and my friend experienced it and laughed away to glory.

There are more impact when we go back to college from an professional environment. Recently
when I and my friends went to the college for our review, we went to the college canteen for our breakfast....

In our office, we used to take our plates after our food and put it in the wash area. We tried doing the same thing in the college canteen and realised that we dont have to take it. ;) After tat we went to wash our hands.. Now its the other way round.... We tried pulling the tap instead of just showing under the tap.... he he.....

In our college lab, we are not allowed use mobile. I got a message when i was inside the lab and started replying for it. One of my friend told me that u cant use ur mobile jus like u use it in the office. Then it hit on my brain that i am in the lab....

We never used to put our mobile in silent mode in the office. My friend was giving review in the college. His mobile rang in the middle. Then i also figured out that my mobile is also not in silent mode and immediately I made it into silent.

I and my friend went to food court(name of the restaurant in my college) for lunch. After our lunch, we had a plate which had two tissues(one for each.. not more than that.......). In our office, we used to take a bunch of tissues even when we eat sandwich.

Even we change our place, it will take time for us to get adjusted to the new environment......

Google named as world’s top brand

Yet another blog about google!!!

You can't eat it, drink it, drive it, or wear it. Ten years ago the name didn't exist. But yesterday, Google was named the top brand in the world.

The internet search engine has overtaken some of the biggest names of the past 100 years including General Electric, Marlboro, Coca-Cola, Toyota and McDonald's.

No PowerPoint? Google will offer a free alternative

Its been only google's products in my blog..... Here comes yet another one.....

Google is adding another tool in its battle with Microsoft: A free version of presentation software.

The yet-to-be-named software will be included in Google Apps, an online suite that includes free word processing, spreadsheet and calendar programs. Users will work with the program online but will be able to save files and view them offline. It's expected to be available this summer.

The Google CEO says its not a competition to Microsoft. Check what he has said:

"We believe we can bring presentations to a new level of user satisfaction.We don't think it competes with Microsoft, because it doesn't have all the functionality of Office. It's a different way of sharing information, more casual, and a better fit to how people use the Web."

Google announced a deal to buy online ad firm DoubleClick for $3.1 billion, which Microsoft contends violates antitrust rules. The deal is Google's biggest ever, following its $1.6 billion acquisition of video-sharing site YouTube last year.

Also, Google announced an alliance with radio broadcaster Clear Channel that lets users of Google's online advertising network buy radio ads directly from their computer.

Google is inspiring me a lot nowadays man!!! Awesome company....

Yipee! Google Spreadsheets get charts

Google Spreadsheets will take a new shape which will have charts also as an option.

Here are the new spreadsheet features of Google Spreadsheet:

Named ranges: you can define a name for a range of cells, and use this name in formulas to refer to cells, for example write =sum(expenses) instead of =sum(c12:e17). This helps make calculation logic clearer to write and understand. Check it out under the "Formulas" tab.

Cell comments: Attach comments to individual cells, great for additional information or for collaboration on a single cell.

Bi-directional text: The ability to properly view and edit text in right-to-left languages like Hebrew. This is very important for our local community here in Israel.

Google Rebrands Froogle, Adds Personalization Features

Froogle has been losing traffic steadily for the last four months, so the company is rebranding it with the straightforward name Google Product Search.

Google's shopping search service Froogle proved more bemusing than amusing. In an effort to bewitch rather than bewilder, Google rechristened its product search service with the decidedly straightforward name Google Product Search.

Google recently also rolled out two new features to further personalize search for those with Google accounts who have enabled their Search History.

The first is a recommendation button on the Google Toolbar, which many users have installed in their Web browser. When clicked on, the button, which shows a pair of dice, takes the user to a site calculated to be of interest based on past searches. Google says it will generate up to 50 such sites per day.

This feature is similar to a service called StumbleUpon, that eBay is rumored to be acquiring. StumbleUpon's recommendations are based on user profiles and voting, in contrast to Google's automated, algorithmic approach.

The second new Google personalization feature is the ability to add a recommendations tab to a Google Personalized Homepage. These recommendations are similar to the Google Toolbar recommendations.

Check out the Q1 growth/fall of the following companies:

HP - increased by 72%
Infosys-increased by 70%
Google - increased by 69%
TCS- increased by 44%
IBM - increased by 8%
Adobe - reduced by 31%
Yahoo - reduced by 11%
Motorala - reduced by 9%

Adobe's 31% loss might be because of the research work that they are doing. They invested a huge amount(100 million) on Apollo.

Lets wait for the next quarter's rate of growth or fall of the companies.

Repartition your hard disk on-the-fly with Windows Vista

As you know, the Disk Management console tool in Windows XP will allow you to create a new partition using any unallocated, or free, space on a hard disk. However, if there is a single partition that takes up the entire hard disk, you can't use the Disk Management console tool to repartition the hard disk into two or more smaller partitions. If you want to accomplish this task in Windows XP, you will have to invest in a third-party console tool such as PartitionMagic. Of course you can back up the disk, reboot with a DOS startup disk, and then use DOS FDisk command to repartition the disk, but then you'll have to reformat and reinstall, which is a lot of work.

Fortunately, Windows Vista's Disk Management console tool will allow you to repartition your existing hard disk any way you want. In other words, it will now allow you to shrink, extend, create, and format partitions without putting your data in jeopardy. Of course, before you perform any of these operations, you should back up, just in case.

The US slang term 'Bangalored' refers to workers laid off because their jobs have moved to India.

"Bangalored" is a verb which recently got added in the dictionary. Aperson is said to be bangalored if he lost his job because the work got outsourced to bangalore or any other city in India .

"He got bangalored last week" is an example of its usage.

U can also type this word "bangalored" in Google search n see.Lot of people in US got bangalored that it became an issue during the US presidential election. That's exactly when this word was coined.

One such similar verb is "shanghaied" which means kidnapped.

FIRST BLOG ENTRY!

Hi friends,

My first blog entry for this year. Have a great year ahead. Jus back to my seat after lunch. Had a glance of the newspaper. I saw a person in my office when i was reading newspaper. Once i saw him, there was flashback rolling in the mind like the way we see in cinemas.... here goes the flashback:

It’s always good to have a look at our past... Now i look at the past i.e 2006 to have some good time. I had a great turn in my life in 2006. Now I am working for Honeywell as a project trainee and got placed in TCS. Let me tell u the happy and fearful days.

From Jan to May it was the usual college going days.... From June it was campus interview time. June 12th was the first interview. It was TCS. my written test was in the evening batch and it got over at 10 in the night. June 13th 2pm was my scheduled interview. But all of a sudden, it is preponed to 11am.. I will never forget that day 'coz me and my friend abdel were walking in the road discussing about the entire subject we had in our course. My goodness.. My interview got over at 8 pm. I have to wait till the next day evening for the result. 14th evening 8 oclock, got the result saying i was selected. One big relief!!..

Next headache was searching for the project for my 6th semester. Then the Honeywell people came for the project trainee interview. I wrote the written test. It was as if i was reading my whole course together. And i was sure that i will not be selected. I went to my brother's place and came back on that sunday. And a great surprise was that i was shortlisted for the interview. Next day was the interview. I did not feel like studying. Did not prepare anything for it. They screwed me up big time for 45 mins.This happened on July 8th.For abdel, it was 1 and half hours.. After which i really thought, i wont be shortlisted for HR.. Honeywell gave more and more surprises... Got shortlisted for HR round. Next day was my HR. It went on well.July 9th evening 5 pm was the result.Yet another surprise from Honeywell... Got selected.
It was 2 out of 2 interviews by then.. I was bit lucky.. Thanks to god,parents and my brothers and sister and all my well wishers.

Another big relief.. Now did not even care for anything.. Was happy for sometime. enjoyed... Then came a big bomb..... Mini project for 5th semester.. Decided on tat. Started working for it. Thanks to abdel who sat along with me throughout the project and helped me.
After which its always mini project. Had reviews with all types of staffs in my deparment. (i mean school). It was in the proper hierarchy: senior lecturer, assistant professors and finally professor for my reviews. Got some heavy comments from them.. My final review made me cry..

Joined honeywell on dec 18th. Now working for Honeywell... Cant even believe tat i have grown up and need to work hereafter.. he he... and will be getting my salary also in few days.... Yipee!!!! Man, Honeywell keeps giving surprises.... They hiked our stipend.. Also they gave New Year gift also...

Oh yeah! I did not tell who is the person whom I saw when i was reading newspaper right? It was the person who interviewed me.. He remembered me n smiled at me also...
There was lots happened in world also... One happies moment was that saddam hussein was hanged(Note: This is my comment.. sorry if i did hurt anyone), Kalaignar Karunanidhi back to his political life winning over Dr.Jayalalitha... So much of inventions,accidents etc.....
So how was ur year 2006???? Was it like mine? or a boring year? Anyways have a blast this year....
